Best burgers I've ever had!
by jrgolfpro
Honestly I've never had such a great hamburger in my life. Not only that but the prices were right on and you couldn't have gotten a better meal for such a reasonable price! The service was wonderful as well! I highly recommend this restaraunt!
- Pros: Outstanding Food, Prices and Service
good but second to..........
by rwndallas
My friends and I decided to find the best burger in Dallas. TWBC came in a close second however Angry Dog was a favorite with all.
TWBC has unique burgers but when it came down to the meat the AD was more juicy.
Both give you a lot for your money. Good deals!!
- Pros: fresh
- Cons: busy
Avearge Burgers

Am I mising something here? There is nothing special about theses burgers. They are good but honestly so are Jack in the Box.
- Pros: not sure
- Cons: they are way too confident
Good food but bad service
by skipchavez
Heard about this place on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives on the Food Channel. On a recent trip to Dallas for a visit went to this place on a Friday night. Line was out the door and took approx 45 minutes to get through and place our order. Bar would not serve anybody until reached end of line so couldn't drink a beer while we waited in line. Burger was ordered medium rare and came out medium well. Ordered a bucket of beer and it came to the table iced down but was only cool at best. Had to wait another 30 minutes for beer to get cold. Would not go back.
- Pros: Good quality meat in burger
- Cons: Staff on Friday night unable to handle crowd
What's All the Hype About?
by Texasfoodie
My wife and I had read nothing but good things about the Twisted Root Burger Co. (in Deep Ellum), and being self-proclaimed burger connoisseurs, we were really excited to check it out. They've been nominated for best burger, best fries, best onion rings, and best restaurant value in Dallas, by several publications and websites. Unfortunately, on our visit, they didn't live up to the praise that they so often receive.
First let me start by saying that I did like the atmosphere. Housed in a vintage building in Deep Ellum, just up Commerce from the old Copper Tank Brewery location, the interior has corrugated tin on the bar and walls, tabletops covered in bottle caps, humorous bumper stickers on the walls, hand-written chalkboard menus, and skylights, which gave the place a funky, comfy kind of feel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and they have a full bar and a patio. Many of the menu items are made from scratch, on site, including ice cream, root beer (which had a definite sarsaparilla/licorice flavor), and pickles (we really enjoyed these). They tout their all-beef hot dogs and also serve some unique burgers such as buffalo ($7.99, always available), ostrich and venison (when in season), as well as turkey and veggie burgers. A couple of salad choices are available as well.
You stand in line to order at the counter and are given a card with the "name" of your order printed on it. This is a little gimicky, but kind of fun, as the names on the cards are of famous people, real and fictitious. We were Walker Texas Ranger; others were Bilbo Baggins, Violet Beauregard, and Clint Eastwood. The staff has a good time, throwing in a few ad libs, while calling these out and occasionally get a few laughs from some of the other diners.
We were there at 1:00 pm on Saturday and by 1:15, the line was out the door, but they keep it moving pretty quickly. I ordered the cheddar burger ($5.49) with fries ($1.99) and Lisa had the peppercorn ranch and bacon burger ($6.99) with onion rings ($2.99). The burgers, served in red plastic baskets, had nice presentation, even though the order of non-crispy curly fries was pretty small for the price (I'm not a big fan of curly fries anyway). However, Lisa's onion rings were pretty darn good, for thick rings, as Lisa and I typically prefer thin. In fact, the crusty, golden, crunchy rings were sweet and flavorful. There were a number of house made condiments, besides the basics, on the table, including a barbecue sauce, horseradish dijon mustard, and a chipotle ketchup. We found the mustard to be very good.
The burgers are served on sesame seed buns, which were dry on top and a bit soggy on the bottom. The meat patties were 1/2" thick, hand-formed, and come cooked medium-well to well, which made them pretty dry. They also had no real noticeable seasoning. The bacon on Lisa's burger was crisp, but the peppercorn ranch was a little watery and made the rest of the burger soggy. She wasn't able to finish hers, and she's a real hamburger nut.
Overall, a fairly disappointing experience. With Adair's and Angry Dog right across the street, they've picked a tough neighborhood in which to sell a mediocre burger. The search for the best burger in Dallas continues.
- Pros: Onion Rings, Ice Cream, Sweet Potato Fries, Pickles, Staff
- Cons: The Burgers And Pretty Much Everything Else
stood in a long line in the rain!!
by Foodie4life
While driving down Commerce on a rainy Saturday afternoon my husband and I noticed this long winding line of people who didn't seem to mind waiting, to get in the Twisted Root Burger Co. and seeing this I immediately wanted to eat there so we parked and the long line quickly dwindled. I don't hold the parking against them since their job is to make premium burgers not to provide premium parking for me to enjoy while I dine there. We sat at the same table with people that had two extra chairs on the end because it was very crowded and you sit where you can. This didn't bother us one bit we enjoyed each other as if it were just us two. If you are with people you enjoy you create your own ambience. People don't line up in the rain to get average food and poor service. This was the BEST burger I've ever eaten. Turkey topped with chipotle, guacamole and cheddar. Moist, tasty and delish! My husband had the Mushroom Swiss he loved it and got a big kick out of being called Darth Vader as he picked up our order. The sweet potato fries were crispy and tasty . It was so good that I wanted it again for dinner! We loved the condiments and the staff was down right giddy they were so friendly. The place is filled with great reviews in the hallway so I'm not so sure where the people with the negative reviews were eating. The long line did it for me. I'm so glad we stopped.
- Pros: Great food & service with a smile
- Cons: None!!
Richardson Location - don't bother
by daskds123
I have no idea what the original location is like, but we will never go back to the new Richardson place. Limited seating, plain burgers - not cooked to order and the mushrooms were from a CAN!!! Frozen curly fries? Are you kidding me? Still wondering what all the hype was about?? We went on a Friday night. Note - if you do go, send one of your party into the dining room while you wait in line to order so they can swoop down on a table as it opens up. Or if the weather is nice, you can sit outside. We saw 2 stranded groups with food in their hands waiting for a table. Sorry, but there are better places to get a burger. Hype, Hype, Hype.
- Pros: Uhmmmm.... none
- Cons: Limited seating, plain food
BEST Hamburgers in Dallas by far!!!
by Todoki
Honestly, hands down THIS is the place to get the best burger in Dallas. My hubby and I were living at the Deep Ellum Lofts for a yr and this place is just a few blocks from there and we went alot. I recommend the Blue Cheese & Jalapeno Burger for those who like spice (I just take out the jalapenos cause I'm a wimp..lol) The meat is soo juicy and fresh!! Sweet potato chips are delicious, as well as the twisted fries. We always share fries since the servings are huge enough for 2 (or 3) people.
I also recommend their specialty root beer floats. Unfortunately we don't go as often since we've moved to Allen but plan on making a trip out there in about 2 wks and can't wait to be greeted by these uber cool people...Atmosphere is directed more towards people with a sense of humor and laid-back personality...I've even seen way older couples here having a good time. Highly recommend it.
Awesome burgers.

There is something different about Twisted Root, and their burgers are great.
To the guy that mentioned poor service. I went in the middle of the day, and they were VERY busy with lunch clientele of all sorts. Families, businessmen, and everything in between were dining there.
The service I received was great. Smiles all around, very helpful and they seemed eager to please. Customers looked happy too. All in all, great stuff.
terrible service
by oj08
I don't really have much to say about this place. Because we didn't get a chance to eat! We stopped here after seeing them on citysearch. We walked in on a weekday around 130-2. If I remember correctly they closed at 230 and boy could you feel that when we walked in. The way you order was a turn off very fuddruckerish. No one greeted us no one said nothing. They looked at us like they had their mind on closing. So we walked out. Walked down the street to the angry dog and had a total opposite experience. Too bad the customer service was terrible. Now the dog sees us time and time again.
- Pros: none
- Cons: customer service
The absolute best. Period.
by jseven7
All I can say is super... duper... YUM.
My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Just wish they would move it out of Deep Ellum... This place deserves better.
- Pros: Not just a cheeseburger... more like heaven on a bun.
- Cons: Location, location, location... oh, and a weeeeee bit pricey for burgers. But like I said, it's not just a burger.
