Incredible japanese and sushi restaurant - a rare gem

Yutaka is one of those rare places with food so unexpectedly good and unlike anything I've had before. The fish is melt in your mouth tender whether eating sushi or Black Cod from the Binchotan grill. One of my favorite dishes is Kaki Age which is a specialty tempura with mixed veggies, shrimp and scallop. The dish was so unexpected; the combination of veggies, seafood and egg are so flavorful. Everything I have tried from the asparagus with cilantro dressing, the sushi, the tempura and Binchotan grill has been truly exquisite. The staff has always been friendly and respectfully polite and the food absolutely delicious and consistently so. Yutaka is a rare gem.
- Pros: Exquisite taste, incredibly unique and well executed cuisine

My friends and I ate at Yutaka a couple weeks ago. There food and customer service is terrible! Their version of tempura is veggies, onions, peppers, shrimp and scampi all fried together like an omelet. Their dish called Ishiyaki Kobe Beef was inedible. The beef was rubbery, tough, and very hard to chew. I told the waitress the dish was not good, and she took it back. When we got our bill, I realized I was charged full price for the dish. When I asked the waitress, she stated that the chef said "it was cooked correctly;" therefore, I was charged for it. I told her to ask the chef for her tip. WORST FOOD I've had at ANY sushi place - mediocre service - terrible customer service - AVOID this place!
- Pros: in popular area of town
- Cons: food, customer service, parking
Best sushi in Dallas

My new favorite place for sushi in Dallas. It is fantastic. I was a Tei Tei's fan (still am) but I loved Yutaka. Small cozy place. The eel crepes are to die for and the sashimi super fresh. I'll definitely be back.
Impressive array of fresh sushi and innovative dishes makes this intimate Uptown Japanese bistro one of Dallas' best.

The Scene
Minimalist Zen-like environs transport diners from the hustle and noise of Uptown. Red flower boxes painted the color of geisha lips hang strikingly against a backdrop of subtle industrial grey. Behind the large sushi bar, Chef Yutaka, though fastidious, works with an aura of serenity. The fashionable Uptown crowd reveres the master at his craft.
The Food
The Japanese antipasto, where diners leave it up to the chef's imagination to create three tiny delectable dishes that are off the menu, is a nightly surprise. The fleshy thick black cod cooked over the hot binchotan grill is superb. Thick flakes fall off the bone and melt on the tongue. Sashimi is flawless. Yutaka carves each slice with precision and presents it with artistic care. Uni (sea urchin) tastes like indulgent clotted cream infused with a hint of the sea. Cold sakes served in a traditional "masu" wooden box pairs perfectly.
Great intimate sushi restaurant!

This place has great sushi. It feels like you have wondered into a little sushi bar in Japan. Its very small and intimate with most of the seating at the sushi bar. That is the best seating so you can watch Yutaka, the sushi chef at work. There are no long lines and overpriced items here, just great sushi, great atmosphere for a great price!
- Pros: Great food, great atmosphere, great prices
- Cons: None!

Yutaka is amazing. The fish is the freshest I've had anywhere in town. The summer sashimi and baby octopus tempura are wonderful -- but then again, so is everything else I've ever had there. I am hooked!
