Palladium Ballroom Dallas

by crycrymeariver

I spent $203.84 for 2 tickets to see Tom Waits June 23, 2008. We thought the unique way of selling the tickets meant we would finally get rewarded for buying early! Ha! What we got was standing room only in a hot sweltering arena. I have been going to concerts since 1966 and never had such a bad experience at what was believed to be a state of the art facility. As dumpy as Bronco Bowl was, I would have much preferred their seating. There should have been RESERVED SEATS for this price. Why weren't the monitors used that were all over the room? They have AC but didn't use it. I think the wrist bands were provided for ID in the case of our deaths. Save you money and stay home unless you like being treated like cattle. With a little consideration for the buying public this could be five star facility but I give it one.

WORST VENUE IN DALLAS

by KelleyRo

I recently attended the Tom Waits concert at the Palladium. Several friends had suggested this show and although at $100 per ticket I was tenative, I purchased the ticket. Upon arrival at the Palladium, I noticed that the venue was very confortable and definitely cooler than it was outside. This is going to be nice, I thought. The showtime was at 8:00, but didn't start until 8:30. Little did the audience know that although the show hadn't started at 8:00, something had changed. The Palladium turned off the AC! Yes, a thousand people in a small crowded space with no AC. It felt very much like a train car headed to a concentration camp. By the time the show started, everyone was sweating and crammed in like sardines. It was the most miserable show I have ever attend. By the time I had to leave, due to heat, there were people lining the entrance way, sitting on the floor, trying not to have heat strokes. While headed to my car, I noticed that there was no way out of the parking lot without driving directly over broken glass. Not beer bottle glass, car window glass. I am not only VERY DISSAPPOINTED in the managment for doing such a thing and putting peoples health at risk, but I will never attend this venue again and will suggest everyone else stay away too.

  • Pros: It's close
  • Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE - NO AC, Expensive drinks, dangerous parking lot, rude service, bad sound... need I say more.

Bad Area

by JonVee

My car got broken into at a show there. I paid to park in the lot behind the venue...and obviously no one was watching the lot during the show. I told the workers there and they offered no help. Not cool.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: People breaking into cars in a pay lot.

South Dallas live music venue books indie acts in a former country saloon.

by Contributor

In Short
Boot-scooting cowboy bar Gilley's moved around the corner to make way for an Alt Rock venue. The mechanized bull is gone but the gym-like wood floor, cavernous space, and smoking ban remain. When not watching acts such as the Lemonheads' Evan Dando and The Shins, fans congregate at the saloonish bar drinking cold beer out of plastic cups. The crowd is generally mid-20s to late-30s with a balanced guy-girl ratio.
