Excellent recommendation

by gad0017

I had dinner on Friday evening upon a co-worker's recommendation at Sangria. The place was busy, so my girlfriend and I had a drink or two at the bar. Even though busy, the bartenders were personal, and the sparkling sangria was different but a great flavor. Before we could finish our first round we were seated on the patio. We had a Tapas combination that was on the chalk boards above the kitchen and it was a great starter and set the mood for the rest of the meal. The duck confit was a great dish as was the seafood paella. We had three to four tapas each and just shared most of them. It was a great place the server let us take our time and order at leisure, but being very attentive. The best part was when the DJ started playing half way through our second pitcher. The entire restaurant was buzzing with laughter and people having a great time. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we ordered a bottle of wine and melted over their dessert called the "Spanish Toast". Upon a recommendation, we had a great night and will turn others toward this well kept secret.

You'll leave hungry and displeased.

Patio is good spot to sit, but other than that it is an awful place. Waitress was very rude and was "put out" to serve us. Food was very bland and over priced. All beef tapas were horrible...NO TASTE. Most menu items are not worth the price. Sangria was uninspired to be named as such. It just tasted like cheap red wine with an orange in it. I have enjoyed much better tapas throughout the Metroplex. Do NOT waste your time or your $$$.

  • Pros: Patio area.
  • Cons: FOOD...Service....Sangria

Crazy meatballs! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!

by wolfevideo

This place is one of those spots in Dallas that is really always an enjoyable time for me. Yes, it's very crowded at peak times. Fortunately, I've never gone during peak times. I've really only gone off-peak, which has ensured a certain level of attention and service.

What has blown me away, are some of the dishes: I love the meatballs, the pan con tomate (an absolute STAPLE in Spain), the chorizitos; to me, these things are all fabulous. Chinese long-beans are excellent as well.

Go early to get a spot on the patio. It's worth it!

The reason I really like this place is that it's somewhat a slice of Spain in Knox-Henderson. It's loud, there's great tapas, drinking, food, people laughing, you can eat outside in the night air and it tends to be a beautiful crowd (which approximates the beautiful people of Spain).

  • Pros: The perfect first date spot!
  • Cons: fills up fast, go early

Overrated trendy does not make up for service

by dudley12

The food was good--portions small. The service was slow and the waitress was so rude-she took my plate before I was finished and even knocked some off on the table. We went to Cafe Madrid to

finish dinner.

Excellent Tapas

by janetlynn09874210

We dined here on a Wednesday night. The food was very, very good and the service was also friendly and attentive, but not overly attentive. The tapas were delivered at a nice pace, one at a time, and we never felt rushed. We sat on the patio, and though the tables were close together, it was still very nice. We had the Pan con tomatoe with the ham and cheese, the asparagus with oyster mushrooms, the fried crabmeat croquettes, and the tuna tartare. All of them were perfectly seasoned and were simply fantastic. This place is better than Cafe Madrid. For dessert we had the churros and although they were also very good, I've tasted better ones. But overall, I would definitely recommend it and I will be going back !

  • Pros: Food is great
  • Cons: You have to pay for the valet $5, no other parking available

great food, good atmosphere

by sooner83

I love this tapas bar! The atmosphere is great and the service is perfect. If it is crowded, it might be hard to get a seat but once you do, they do not rush you at all. It is a really pleasurable experience that is meant to be a very long meal. We started off with the Pan con Tomate (you must order it with the serrano ham and the manchego cheese!-- the dish sounds so simple, but it really is fantastic). They have several different Sangrias, but I had the red. It was very good. We then ordered the Ensaladita de Tuna Tartare. The hazelnuts and the unusual dressing make this a great take on Tuna Tartare. We ordered the Gambas al Ajillo next. This was not my favorite because they leave the shrimp heads on and it lacked a bit of flavor. They definitely have better dishes. We tried several specialties (like Kobe beef skewers and saffron croquettes). The dessert we ordered, the churros with hot chocolate sauce is absolutely amazing. The whole table can split it and you really shouldn't get too full before having this-- it is really amazing. Overall, this is a great can't miss spot in Dallas.

Great for pre-symphony bite

by mmccalpin

My wife and I were running a bit short on time before attending the symphony, so we immediately thought tapas and decided to give Sangria a try. It was early on a Saturday night (6:15 perhaps) and we were seated immediately. Our server came by quickly and was very personable, but not in an intrusive and gum-smacking, "my name is Skippy and I'll be yer server tonite" sort of way. We told him we were in a bit of a rush and ordered the standard sangria (for me) and the champagne sangria (for her). I've never really gotten into sangria before, and this sangria left me feeling the same way. It might be fine sangria, but I'll not try it again.

We ordered four tapas and were pleased with the speed and efficiency of the service. The patatas bravas con aioli were plentiful and nicely crisp and spiced, but while the sauces were tasty, there was not nearly enough of either. The Esparragos y Setas a la Plancha (Asparagus and oyster mushrooms sauteed with olive oil and garlic) were outstanding. The mix of tender-crisp asparagus and the soft, moist mushrooms was fabulous. The Ensaladita de Tuna Tartare was fine, though not exceptional: somehow the tuna got lost in all the rest of it. Lastly, the Pan con Tomate with Serrano Ham and Manchego was fine. I would definitely recommend getting the optional ham and manchego with it, as the Pan de Tomate would be a bit thin and uninteresting without them.

We got out in plenty of time and were able to enjoy a drink before the symphony. Although I don't feel we got to try out all the aspects of Sangria's, I was very pleased with this visit and look forward to more in the future.

  • Pros: solid, professional service; some very good menu items
  • Cons: a bit uneven in the portioning

Sangria Tapas y Bar completes Uptown?s triumvirate of European bistros

by wendyyork

This is part of the Dallas Voice review:

Scott Fitzgerald?s dictum that ?the rich are different? could apply just as easily to how tapas restaurants fit into the culinary universe as to people in the social hierarchy. Tapas theory fascinates those who liked to be challenged by the puzzles of the universe, tapas exert an almost gravitational attraction on foodies. It?s easy to understand why: When a menu is made up of dozens of items, all more or less suitable at any point in the dining process, dinner becomes less a formality than an adventure. Cuckoo over one item? Order it again. Less than thrilled by another? It?ll be gone quickly enough and you can make a mental note to skip it next time. And there will be a next time. With so many options, you can literally never eat the same meal twice ? and perhaps never order the same dish twice until you?ve made six or seven visits. Variety is the tapas restaurant?s stock-in-trade. ...... see their web site for more on this review and others

Perfect choice for a girls night out.

by calgal4u2

The perfect girls night out! This place was the perfect choice for us 40ish women. We love good food and sharing? this was perfect with the different yummy choices that were displayed before us in a beautiful presentation. The wine choices were good, the pricing fair, the atmosphere fun and friendly, but I would also recommend it for a romantic dinner or a first date place as well. All 6 of us gave it a thumbs up. Thank you Lombardi Family for creating another top notch restaurant for us to dine in, we will ALL be back!

  • Pros: Great value, atmosphere, service!
  • Cons: I would reccommened a reservaton, they fill up fast, so call ahead!

horrible service

by crawfood

The atmosphere here is great. Stood in the bar for about 45 minutes on a Saturday night having red sangria. Weak, but tasty. That was the good part of the evening. We were seated and the waiter took at least 10 minutes to arrive at our table. We could not hear one thing he was saying to us b/c the music was SO loud and there were so many people. He could only talk to one of us at a time. We first asked him about one of the tapas specials up on the chalkboard. He had NO idea what it was or how it was prepared. He asked another waitress and she had no idea either! He came back w/ a description of something totally different than was on the board. We decided against ordering it. The spicy shrimp tapas was mealy and way over cooked. When we mentioned this, the waiter did not seem to care. The kobe beef was good, as were the lamb chops. Everything else was mediocre and way overpriced. To top it off, we paid $100 to not be full AND we just got our credit card bill only to discover the waiter added an additional tip for himself!! We will see what the manager has to say. The "manager" who answered the phone told us to call back tomorrow and talk to another person.

  • Pros: atmosphere
  • Cons: everything else
