Sammys BBQ has to be one of- if not the best BBQ restaurant. You can go time and again and not get stuck in a "rut". The entrees are always select, the side dishes are extraordinary and the desserts can't be beat. Good service, good food------ almost heaven.
- Pros: great food, service, selection
- Cons: hours, hours, hours
Professional Barbecue
by philobeddoe
I took some friends and associates for lunch and found the food to be top notch, professionally prepared with great care and consideration.
I found the links to be especially tantalizing, as well as the pulled pork.
The only side I sampled were the beans, and they were stupendous.
I did not sample the desserts.
I did have a chance to speak with the pit master and the owner and found the entire experience very fulfilling.
Cannot wait to get back to Dallas.
- Pros: Great Professionally Prepared Authentic Cuisine

Best in the metroplex
by CJ75023
We have had BBQ all over Texas. Sammy's is the second best in the state and the VERY best in the metroplex AND the best sides to boot! Sure wish they would open on some evenings!
- Pros: best in the metroplex
- Cons: not open evenings
I was not impressed
by mpruett
I'd heard for years about this mythical "Sammy's" barbecue joint near downtown, that supposedly had the best barbecue in the area. Finally, now that my company moved to downtown Dallas, I've visited it twice.
Needless to say, I was not impressed.
The brisket was kind of tough, not overly smoky, and generally sub-standard. The sausage was ok, and the sauce was fine, although neither were anything remarkable. Sammy's sides were great however. The potato casserole was very good, and so were the beans.
If you've had Kreuz's barbecue in Lockhart, Woody's in Centerville, the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church barbecue in Huntsville, or even Rudy's in San Antonio/Austin, you'd never claim that Sammy's was anything more than middle of the road in terms of meat & sausage.
Baker's Ribs is quite a bit better, if you want another local barbecue joint.
- Pros: Good sides, good atmosphere
- Cons: Crowded, not good barbecue
It's ok

The servings are on the light side, but the sauce is too thin and runny.... it gets into everything on your plate.
- Cons: Sauce is too runny, servings too light
Great local lunch spot
by jenfrench14
We tried this local joint after reading about it on City Search and it was well worth it! The place was packed with locals, but we ordered and found an empty table very quickly. They offer over 10 meats. We tried the chopped beef sandwich and it was delicious! They have a wide range of tempting side dishes and many homeade desserts to choose from. Make this stop while your in Dallas.
- Pros: Homecooked BBQ, Great food
- Cons: Crowded
White-collar lunch crowd lines up for brisket and killer sides at this cheerful Uptown joint.

The Scene
The floors are concrete and the walls exposed brick, but this barbecue spot still feels downright cozy, thanks to homey touches like green- and white-checked tablecloths, a chalkboard menu and unfailingly friendly, smiling service. A line wraps around the room every weekday at lunch; luckily, there are plenty of tables inside and on the spacious all-weather patio.
The Food
Grab a tray and mosey down the cafeteria-style line, where quick-draw cooks slice up beef brisket and tender pork loin, plus smoked sausage, ham, turkey and more. Chopped beef is a particular favorite, piled high on a bun and doused in sweet sauce. And oh, those sides: From crispy, light fried okra to deliciously lumpy potato and cheddar cheese casserole studded with bacon, chives and sour cream, these are seriously tasty accompaniments. For dessert, there are lemon bars and brownies.

Great place to go for a relaxed crowd and good food. I went there and had the chopped beef sandwich with onion rings. It was delicious. They even had warm bbq sauce at the table to add to your food if you like. The people were friendly and the service was quick. Just when I thought this place could not get any better , the bathrooms were even clean and smelled nice. What more could you ask for!!!!
- Pros: clean bathrooms, great service, plenty of parking
Best BBQ in town!
by crazykitty
This place is always packed, and you can see why. It's location is ideal for anyone who works or lives downtown. The BBQ is melt-in-your-mouth, the best you'll find anywhere! They are reasonably priced, super fast and parking is no problem.
