Savvy is THE BEST
by wreckinbawl
I've lived in New York City for years, and when I moved to Austin I couldn't find a hairstylist that I liked. My friend in Dallas, on a whim, went to Avalon in the West Village and had her hair cut after 5 years of cutting it herself (she is very, very picky about her hair). She was so impressed with Savvy Ty (sp?) that she told me I needed to come get my hair cut by him. I booked it, and made the drive. The pressure was on and the expectations were high!
I found the salon upscale, neat, clean, and everyone was friendly. Savvy listened to what I wanted, and understood exactly what I was asking for. He expertly cut my hair with confidence. His technique was off the charts. I was blown away. And also, I was shocked when I got up to the desk and they only charged me $42 for the cut! I'd have paid twice that and been happy.
When I got home, things only got better. My hair looks full all the time due to the layers Savvy cut (no one has ever mastered layers in my straight hair though they've tried; Savvy truly understands hair and how it behaves). My hair looks healthy, and for the first time in my life I can even let it air-dry and it looks good!
I have never written a hair stylist recommendation (and I rarely, if ever, write reviews), but I HAD TO let everyone know that there is definitely a high standard of hair cutting by this stylist and I was more than impressed. I'll happily drive the 3 hours for Savvy every 6 weeks!
- Pros: Best haircut I've ever had
- Cons: not one bad thing
Don't Waste Your Time
by Geisha
Don't waste your time with this place. I showed up for one appointment to find out my appointment was cancelled and they never contacted me. Stupidly, I made another appointment only to have them cancel that an hour and 15 minutes prior to the appointment (I guess I should be grateful that they called this time). There are plenty of other salons in Dallas that are willing to take my business instead of giving me the run around.
- Cons: Disrespectful
Horrible salon
by sd9gs
Don't book online with this salon, especially if you really need a haircut and are counting on them being able to deliver for you. I booked an appointment online and paid for it IN ADVANCE (which in itself in my opinion is ludicrous) and when I showed up for the appointment they miraculously did not have it on record. It was extremely embarrassing and upsetting for me, because I was counting on having my hair cut so badly and then I was left on a weekend with little chance to get an appointment anywhere else for at least another week. Extremely frustrating. Stay away from this salon.
Im still ccrying from my horrible hair cut
by dallaschik
For starters she was late. I had a picture of what I wanted. I had tons of hair do do this cut with. She had no idea what she was doing She charged 65$. I ended up with holes all over my head. its un style able . I called to make a complaint I wanted my money back so I could go some where else. The manager made one attempt to call me. I missed her call and called her back asap left her a message she never called me back!!!! Im still living with this mess on my head its the ugliest haircut. I have been to pro cuts and received a way better cut. I look un professional! These people wont even give me the time of day after they ruined my hair! Im scared for life!!!!! They are undercover boot leg hair robbers!!!!!!!!!!
- Cons: no parking
Surprise Birthday "Spa Weekend" RUINED!!
by susie389
Words can not express my disappointment with this business. My sister and I planned a surprise birthday "Spa Weekend" to celebrate our mother's 80th birthday. I invited my mother down from Oklahoma and my sister up from Austin. I scheduled message, body wrap and facials and advised them of this special event I was planning. I reconfirmed 2 days prior. On the morning of our "Spa ?day I received a call (almost 2 hours prior) advising that the individual responsible for the message and body wrap for the day had called in sick. They offered me no alternative arrangement, no alternate package. While quite upset we at least had the facial to look forward to. Then an hour prior I received another phone call from the spa to advise that the individual doing our facial was in the emergency room. Again no alternate options offered or offer to even reschedule. I was completely appalled by this business's make this right. This is a business that simply does not care about their patrons! I would NEVER recommend this place of business! I caution anyone from planning any special events as they have no backup and they don't care about their patrons.
Outstanding Salon!
by jltdallas
Avalon Salon/Spa has been a wonderful part of the West Village for the past six years or so. It's a busy place...but I always feel like i'm treated with personal attention from my stylists and the front desk staff. they are open late during the week....so if you do not get out of work until late - you can always get hair cuts all the way up till 9pm...as well as massages and waxing too - they also have stylists working on sundays. avalon is the only place in town i know where you can get a hair cut on a sunday. I definitely recommend it! :)
- Pros: talented staff members
- Cons: parking on the weekends is tough in the west village...
Best Bikini Wax in Dallas!
by gbettell
After too many bad experiences with bikini waxing in my past, I was timid for another. Sandra made me feel very comfortable and assured a better experience. The calmimg lobby set the tone with soft music, waterfall, and herbal tea. The wax appointment only took 20 minutes and I have no complaints! Sandra was quick, thorough, clean, and professional. This was the best waxing experience I have encountered. Book in advance, Sandra has many loyal customers.
Bad Listeners, Zero Talent, No respect
by fshnmvn
I got in early, the girl before me was 45 minutes late but they let her get started anyway- so therefore I waited an additional hour for her. The colorist did not listen when i told her not to add red. When I mentioned it she lied and said it turns brown ( it did not). I got thrown into the stylists chair and he spend less than 10 minutes cutting my hair and told me he did not have time to finish.... basically he trimmed up the bottom and had " no time" to trim up my long layers. The only redeeming quality of the salon was the girl who blew my hair out and styled it... she was only an intern and still in school. She is the only one I would trust. When i went back to have toner added ( the red was ugly and brassy and even the colorist admited it) they charged me for it.
I would never suggest going to this salon. Our stylist/colorists in rural america, Oklahoma are better. Should have stuck with Mastercuts. The trim I got was not even worth the $10 i would have paid there.
- Pros: the intern
- Cons: colorists, stylist, long wait time
Avalon Spa
by mcarolbabe
I have been to the Avalon Spa more than once for cut, color and style. I feel the receptionist is not at all helpful with the Aveda makeup or products in the salon. However, I did like the hairstyling staff and the atmosphere. The color and highlights that I received had to be redone first by Avalon and then I just went back to my old stylist in Allen. It was worth the drive!
Venturing beyond hair and cosmetics, Uptown's Aveda "lifestyle salon" also offers spa services.

In Short
The lobby of this full-service salon doubles as retail space for Aveda products. Spa services--massage, body treatments and facials--take place behind a door to the right of the reception desk. Nail services, brow and lash tinting, and sunless tanning are available. Hair-removal services include both regular and Brazilian-style bikini waxing.
