unpolished security guards nearly ruined visit

by cmk1126

It was a very hot Saturday in July, and the very rude and absurd security guard made me throw my empty cup away in a trash can outside (over a dozen feet away). There was also a trash can about as far away just inside the door in the cafe area. But she was very belligerent and wouldn't let me take those air-conditioned steps to the rubbish bin. She made me go outside. It was difficult to enjoy the trip as a result of this ridiculous beginning. Also, most of the art is nonsense.

What a scam

by joycelarock

Too many patrons. Fire hazard. Flu season. Parking expensive. Ticketmaster sold tickets that were to be good for anytime, but expired on May 1 unbeknown to me. I was told go anytime. You pass up the line. Yea right on. I am sorry my daughter paid that much money for a Christmas gift to her Dad and I. Old people should not be allowed to receive such wonderful gifts and then not get to use them. Our fault, we did not look at tickets again until May 2nd. What a surprise! I seriously don't think we missed a lot this time around. A father that spent way to many hours working. I did not get to see it 30 years ago, too busy with 3 children under 12 years. I don't know how I am going to make it up to her. I will survice and she will get over it. Lesson learned here, don't put off until tomorrow. Happy Mother's Day to all.

After king Tut Exhibit

by CSMobileUser2

Let me say that the exhibit was very interesting. However, if you are looking for a bargain, don't waste your money. Between parking (15.00) and the cost of the exhibit (32.50 + 7.00 for headsets), I feel taken for a ride...

Parking!!!

by CSMobileUser

One would think that with the price of most exhibits (i.e. $32.50 for King Tut), you would expext not to be robbed through parking fees before you even get into the museum. The cost of parking was half the cost of the exhibit. Give me a break! I'll be going to the Kimball in Ft.Worth from now on!

Where is the Tuthankamun gold cuffin from every Ad?

by RBKbeba

I?m disappointed because the Tuthankamun collection did have the Tuthankamun gold cuffin, that is on every single promotion or ad, what kind of joke is this one.

Also, many years ago I read all what happened when Howard Carter and many facts are not mentioned in the collection. For the price ticket, the crazy price of the parking lot, and for Dallas Art Museum being a Non-Profit Organization which main function is education on art for public, I think the collection doesn?t worth. Definitive Dallas Art Museum and theirs sponsors are making a lot money, and at the end we the simple people don?t get good information.

  • Pros: Good Ambience
  • Cons: Price, Short Collection & Parking Lot -

Disappointing

by Texassusieq

My husband, 14 y/o granddaughter and I visited the King Tut exhibit at the museum and were very disappointed. We purchased tickets in advance with a scheduled admission time. We anticipated that was to minimize the crowd and for the price of the tickets it should have. The crowd was such that we were unable to get close enough to see many of the artifacts, much less read about them. We paid for each of us to have the audio tour equipment. That was a waste, as it added very little and the English of the narrator was difficult to understand. We paid an additional $5.00 each to see a movie about the age of the pharoahs. We never saw it and when we inquired no one seemed to know anything about it. (We also paid additional to see a movie about mummies which we did see.) To top it all off we had to pay $15 to park!

NY to TX

by jenesse

I was worried about relocating my children from the culture of Manhattan to Dallas -- UNTIL we went to the Dallas Museum of Art!

  • Pros: easy parking, nice lunch area, kid friendly

Experience work from some of the world's most prominent artists, ancient and new.

by Contributor

In Short
Since 1903, the DMA has been showing culturally significant artwork. The compact, modern exterior disguises spacious galleries inside. Permanent collections range from ancient Mediterranean to contemporary. The European Painting and Sculpture collection draws a crowd, offering notable works from Monet, Gauguin, Mondrian and Rodin. Prolific in the gathering of West African art, a sizeable display from the sub-Saharan region is impressive. Stop by the Visitor Services desk or call to ask about family-friendly workshops and camps.
