I am incredibly happy after dining at the French Room. The service was impeccable, the setting is exquisitely beautiful, and the food kept on brining an idiotic smile to my face. I shared everything with my dining companion, and from the amuse bouche to the complimentary sweets after dessert, we had to work exremely hard to find a single flaw. And that single flaw was the only one we found.. but we'll speak of that later. One appetizer was a crab cake served over a ginger-lemongrass lobster sauce, a crab cake which consisted entirely of jumbo lump crab. The other starter was tomato sorbet served over seasoned ahi tuna tartar in a bowl of the most tasty thing I've ever had that professed to be a mere gazpacho. The orange sorbet cleanser was charmingly presented in ice cornocopias, but otherwise not memorable. However, the entrees were amazing! The diver scallops dish had 4 gorgeous specimens seared in almost jerk-like spices resting on fork-smashed potatoes with a sauce of chicken jus. Chicken jus with scallops!? But it was perfect! The result was a constantly entertaining mixture of home-spun comfort (potatoes and jus) surrounding the more rarified scallop flavor. The accompanying cherry halves were tasty, but not necessary. Our other entree featured a medium rare duck breast, seared fois gras, and squash blossom stuffed with duck/fruit sausage that left me thinking I was in mouth heaven. The accompanying sauce provided just the right touch. The dish may sound busy, but it all worked, and I never had better fois gras - mmm! We enjoyed the complimentary coffee mousses before the desserts made their appearance. The Mansion on Turtle Creek has a worthy challenger for best creme brulee in Dallas, but our other dessert provided the sole flaw. While the mascarpone espresso mousse was unexceptionable and the banana sorbet delicious, the flourless chocolate cake at the base wasn't the silky smooth texture it should have been. The closing sweets were a lovely end.

Pros: food, ambience, service, parking, food, lovely parting gift

Cons: not even worth mentioning; the price was well worth it
