This is an Excellent Mexican Restuarant and not your usual Mex-Tex
by CalvinDBaker
My wife and I made our very first vist to this restuarant and enjoyed the visit. We decided to visit for the lunch period to avoid the crowds and parking problems that friends told me was common during the evening hours. A young lady met us and guided up toward a back room. We told her we did not want to be sitted in the bar area nor in the patio area and preferred a booth. We were giving a booth in what they called J area.
A young man named James was our waiter and was very knowledgeable and helpful. We were glad because we found this was not our usual Mex-Tex restuarant. He brought us chips (too thin but tasty) and a green looking salsa. My wife asked for ranch dressing instead but I was game. The waiter informed me that I could try more than one salsa since they have four kinds. I tried two and both were good and spicy. Neither anything like I get a El Chico or Pancho's. He had to give us some advice about about our entrees also. I am glad he was so helpful. My wife got both the cheese enchallas and a relleno, both were excellent except the relleno was a little overcooked on the bottom. I had the chicken encellas(pardon my spelling) and it was superb. The waiter was very attentive although the room was soon filled to capacity. His efforts were rewarded when it came time to pay with a very good tip added. He earned it. We enjoyed this meal.
- Pros: DECOR, SERVICE
- Cons: PARKING, CROWDS
Could have been better

I went to Chuy's last night for a friend's birthday. I will not complain about how long it took to seat us, because there were quite a few of us and we needed at least half of us there before we were seated. That is understandable. The atmosphere for the type of place Chuy's is, works just fine. It is not my style of restaurant, but I understand the theme, and it works. The staff are great, and very accommodating. They were very nice, very attentive, and definitely on top of everything. My problem is with the food itself. Being born in TX, I love Tex-Mex, Mexi-Mex, Texican, and just plain Mex. Whatever you call it, I love Mexican inspired food. I was very disappointed in the salsa. It tasted as if someone had poured and entire salt shaker into the small bowl. Thinking that this was possibly the case, I tried another bowl. It was just as bad. The fresh flavor of the produce in the salsa was ruined by what boils down to oversalting. The guacamole I had high hopes for suffered from the same problem. When my main course arrived (the chicken tacos), I have to say, the plate was beautiful. I cleared the plate and it was very good. If some of the salt had made it from the salsa to the tacos, I think the meal would have been a great one.
- Pros: parking, service
- Cons: salsa, guacamole, no reservations

I have just moved here from Cali....and everyone at work has been telling me to try Chuy's. I went and the Margaritas are the best I've tried and the food is awesome. The cheese and chips are tasty and foot delicious. You must like spicy food! The Chicken Rellenos are the best with cream sauce!
- Cons: parking

austin transplant makes good in big d
by dallas_foodie
maybe i'm biased from living in austin for 7 years, but this is one of my favorite tex-mex restaurants in dallas. if you're hungry, the stuffed sopapillas (not a dessert item) are definitely the way to go, but the burritos and the enchiladas are not to shabby, either.
- Pros: good salsa and unique tex-mex items like stuffed sopapillas
- Cons: long wait & no reservations; parking can be difficult
A popular Austin transplant on Knox known for its Tex-Mex fare, whimsical decor and reasonable prices.

The Scene
Both the noise level and the design are huge and loud. Bright candy-colored walls flank an Elvis fountain, bubblegum machines and a jukebox. Shiny hubcaps decorate the ceiling in one room, and fish paintings stud the walls of another. Bikers, SMU moms and teenagers all clutch beepers near the bar and fountain, while they wait for a table.
The Food
The primarily Tex-Mex menu features low-key and laid-back dishes. Egg roll-like banditos with ranch dressing are a popular start; whole-wheat tortillas fried with cheese and jalapenos, cut into gooey, spicy chunks. While the table crispy chips can be thin to scoop, the chunky salsa fares better than the smooth one. Stuffed sopapillas with ground beef and bubbly cheese satisfy any appetite. Chili rellenos feature a well mixture of cheese and thick crust. Finish the meal with dessert sopapillas: fresh, puffy and served with bottles of honey.
Chuy's is the Best in Tex-Mex
by rangerfan
The atmosphere is fun with great music. Margaritas are great, particularly the Swirl a half lime half strawberry margarita. The freshca (chunky) salsa and creamy jalapeno ranch (it is to die for - take some home or use as dressing on their salads) with chips get you going, Banditos (deep fried wheat tortillas filled with chese and mild peppers set you up for the main event - the Chuychanga, big as yo' face burrito or Chuy's Blue Corn tortilla special are all good. Try the Hatch Green chille sauce, it is hot and great! Daily specials are the bomb - Get the Chicka Chucka Boom Boom on Wednesdays - two chicken enchilldas covered in cheesy, green chille laden sauce with green chille rice and beans - its the best!
- Pros: best in Tex Mex, reasonable price, Austin ambiance
- Cons: parking is limited, wait in primetime
Fresca me baby!
by reallyluvs2eat
I go for the Chips and Fresca and Creamy jalapeno dressing. I'm their biggest fan. Make several trips a week from Richardson. The mexi-cob salad and tortilla soup are both unbelievably good. Try their daily specials...they may just sound ok on the menu but they are AWESOME! This would require a Mon-Fri trip. It's true on weekends and at dinner time the wait can be long, try early dinner or lunch during the week. On Saturdays and Sundays don't go between 12-2 if you can't afford to wait.
- Pros: Food, fun decor, Inexpensive
- Cons: Parking , can be crowded
