Great Diamond in the Rough!
by jkboston1050
Definitely a great hole in the wall. The hot dogs, the italian beef and the shakes are top notch. Rivals anything I've had in Chicago. Service was fast and friendly. Seating can be a little tight when busy...but any wait...is worth the wait. Highly recommended!
- Pros: Dogs, Italian Beef & Shakes
- Cons: Seating

Great cheap food!!!!!
by asanders005
Accidentally stumbled upon this place while shopping and couldn't resist a meal at a place with a giant hot dog out front!!! Best hot dog and fries I have ever eaten I believe....or at least pretty close. Friendly family atmosphere......would definately recommend for a quick cheap meal!
Sometimes, its about the people...
by CoachMatt03
Of course the food is great, I doubt you could find a better hotdog or frozen custard, but its the people who work there that make it worthwhile.
Its great to bump into Harry himself every once in a while, and everyone is so friendly, I would still be a regular even if the food wasn't as great as it is.
Bravo!
- Pros: Cant find nicer employees.
Best Frozen Custard Ever!!!
by coberg
Wow! the best Mint Chocolate Chip ever! And the Savannah w/ chili is my favorite hotdog.
There are so many flavors of custard and several hotdog choices, even the hamburger hotdog is good.
My child loves the chicken strips, its fried, but your at Harry's so its all about FUN.
It's always fun for our kids, they love the atmosphere and music.
Always a treat to see Harry. And no telling who else you might run into.
- Pros: Atmosphere, Knox is a great area to walk , enjoy shopping and relax.
Three words... Banana Pudding Shake
by bigkiss
I have been taking my daughter there for years! It is always such a treat. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Harry's is kid friendly. If you are lucky enough to be around the store when they are making the waffle cones, I know first hand it is hard not to get one!!!
- Pros: Great place, great frozen custard, great service
- Cons: Parking, but worth it to find a parking place
Chicago style hot dogs in Big D
by heebada
Several years ago, my wife was bugging me about going to a hot dog place called Wild About Harry's, becuase she wanted to try their custard. She hates hot dogs and, up to that point, I only ate them at ball games. However, I'm glad her pestering paid off, as I was quick to learn that there is indeed a difference between a steamed Vienna Beef dog in a poppy seed bun than the standard thing you get wrapped in foil at sporting events.
The menu features a number of specialty hot dogs, not the least of which is the Chicago style dog, featuring sport pepppers, tomatoes, bright green relish and celery salt, among other toppings; you need a knife and fork for this bad boy. Personally, I prefer just mustard and onions, but occasionally I'll give a nod to my youth in Mississippi and have a slaw dog, which replaces cole slaw for onions in the former variation.
Harry's an Oklahoma native, and is always friendly with customers, particulalry my 5 year old daughter who he always recognizes and calls "sweetie". It turns out his own daughter and I were at the same college in Louisiana at the same time, and he once sold clothing to some of the stores in my hometown. The place is located fairly close to the well-heeled Dallas neighborhood of Highland Park, and there have been reported sightings of Ross Perot, Jr. and Troy Aikman partaking of Harry's dogs and homemade custard.
Charm

It's hard not to like this little hot dog spot because the folks who work here always have a nice attitude. Of course, the food is good and the custard is popular as well. I lived in Chicago for a few years, so I was happy to have a Chicago style dog again. My only compaint (and this is VERY nit-picky, I admit) is in Chicago, the sliced their tomatoes instead of dicing them like Harry's does. That actually makes a difference. I think about that everytime I'm stuffing my face with that hot dog goodness.
Has Custard & Veggie Options
by amazonchix
Yeah for custard!!!! It truly surprises us there are few custard/yogurt places around Dallas?especially around college establishments. None-the-less, the custard was very good! Was a softer custard than what we are used to?not sure if it always this way?but it also didn?t stop us from eating every last bite. We ordered a Turtle Creek Sundae (Carmel, Fudge & Pecans) and a concrete. Service was fast and very friendly. Portions were good but the price was a little more expensive compared to the custard places we are accustomed to out of state. Didn?t eat there for lunch or dinner but was glad to see they offered veggie hotdogs (for an up charge).
- Pros: Great service!
- Cons: Maybe a little pricey on their custard compared to other places.
