Best Thai Food In Dallas
by nanang
July 03, 2007
I know this restaurant from my best friend, after my first visit, I love to come back to Bangkok city @ Greenville ave, especially when I have a guest come from another state or other country I always bring my guests to this restaurant to have nice dinner or lunch . I love Pad Thai noodle dish and Combination Platter. The service and the food are excellent. Even though I live far from this restaurant, I always love to come again because this is the Best Thai Restaurant in Dallas.
- Pros: Ambience
Nice decor...affordable and great food.

I order delivery from this place and the food was always good. I love this place because its open on holidays, last Monday which is memorial days i decided to take my family out here for dinner and found that the decor is very warm and inviting ( don't be fooled by the outside appearance ). We ordered the tom yum soup , papaya salad, red curry was Amazingly good...:) we love it and we certainly be back.
- Pros: Tasty food ( best curry) , cheap food. Good service.
- Cons: None that i know.

Ok, let me start by saying that I have been driving past this restaurant for YEARS, and have never stopped in. This was definitely a sad oversight on my part. I stopped in today for a bite on ym way home, and was pleasantly surprised. From the outside, you would not think that you could get more than a few people inside, let alone a full kitchen, but when you walk in the restaurant opens into a very spacious and attractive open floorplan. Now, any time I go to a Thai restaurant, I must have an order of corn patties. Being allergic to peanuts, I cannot have the traditional sauce, but I love the corn patties themselves with the sweet chili sauce. I must say that I was a bit disappointed with the corn patties at Bangkok City. The flavor was very nice, but they were a touch harder than expected and had too much breading for my taste. I also ordered the beef and noodle soup. This soup was phenomenal! I have recently started eating beef again after many years as a vegetarian, and am therefore very picky about the beef I eat. This soup had incredibly tender and tasty beef, and the broth was scrumptious. I am normally not a huge fan of cilantro, but found the perfect amount in this soup to set off all of the other ingredients and truly bring them all to life. I think I will make this restaurant a regular stop for the soup alone. I cannot wait to go back to Bangkok City and start working my way through the rest of their wonderful menu. Definitely a restaurant I would recommend to anyone!
- Pros: Great soup, very attentive and polite staff

Yummy Thai Food

I ordered from here because it's close to my house and on the way home from work. It's just as good as Royal Thai (don't hold me accountable for the rest of the menu because I really only base this on the only Thai dish that I eat--drunken noodles). Plus, I think it is a little cheaper than Royal Thai. Don't be scared by its outside appearance - I was for a while!
- Pros: Yummy Basil noodles (Drunken noodles)
- Cons: not sure yet....
Good food at a very good price but...not as kind as we expected. by Gloria P. at InsiderPages

We were a party of 7 people, three of them children. We were very excited to eat Thai food so we went there as I had been before and I loved the food. The food was excellent but the lady (in her fifties) was really unkind with us. Perhaps she does not like children, perhaps we were supposed to make a reservation (there was plenty of empty spaces when we arrived) I wonder what we did wrong but she was in a hurry with us, she would not listen and she did not show her best towards us. We/I decided not to come back any more.

I really love this place and i want to come here and be one of their usual customers. The spicy foods on their menu are just to die for if you are one of those people who love to eat spicy food like i do. I enjoyed the spicy papaya salad and the Pad Kee Mow was really good too. I got there pretty early so i got a nice parking spot near the front of the restaurant. Wish i lived near by so i could get it delivered.

Great Night Out

The waiters were friendly and always checked on me when i needed something. I would come back again every week, just for that. The prices for the food wasn't bad either, it beat the other restaurants that i have eaten at and the Manager was excellent at checking if we were doing okay. The Pad Thai was just the way i wanted it, I asked for it not to be a little spicy and they made it the way i wanted it. The Tom Yum soup was also really good, compared to the other Thai restaurants that I've eaten at, It reminded me of the time i was in Thailand, on the beach.

Worst Thai food I've ever had
by maastrichtian
August 22, 2008
1st of all, I'm Thai. I've eaten at many Thai restaurants in Dallas, and although I do find most of them bland and not authentic (almost any Thai will tell you the same), they're usually ok, and I know people like that kind of food, so I keep my mouth shut. However, after trying out Bangkok City today, I had to register at Citysearch and post my 1st review just to point out that this is the WORST Thai food I've ever had.
FOOD:
Let's start with the Pad Thai, the staple of Thai fare. It was noodles and ketchup. Pad Thai often has ketchup as a COMPONENT of the sauce, but I've never seen anyone try to pass off ketchup as the sole ingredient. If you like this Pad Thai, you also like McDonald's food and shouldn't be allowed to post reviews on the internet.
Pad Siew was stunningly bland. Pork was dry.
Chicken Satay -- HOW do you mess up Chicken Satay? -- was incredibly dry and did not have any curry on it. Maybe at 1 point it was marinated in curry, but it appeared they removed all the curry before cooking.
Imperial rolls (soft rice paper wrapped veggies and shrimp) - horrible. Absolutely no taste, even the shrimp.
The highlight of the meal was the complimentary egg roll, which isn't even Thai.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
Liberal overuse of carrots. The imperial roll was 25% carrot, and the main vegetable in the Pad Siew was carrot -- I've never even seen carrots in Pad Siew, much less as a main ingredient. Carrots are dirt cheap -- that's the only reason I can see for so many. Shame on them.
My take out order, consisting only of the foods I listed, took FORTY MINUTES
SUMMARY:
So my point is, if they screwed up one dish, ok, but they screwed up EVERYTHING, and I only ordered the most common Thai-American foods that they should know how to cook well, consistently. So they must always cook like that. The only good part of the experience was that I got the parking spot right in front of the door. Also they offered me a glass of water while I waited.
- Pros: Free air, water
- Cons: Food was horrible, very overpriced, very slow

This restaurant has been here for a long time, as I been told. However, they have changed management a few time - that brough me back for another try. It is worth to try and I love it much better than a few yrs back - easy, cozy setting, and enjoy it - but parking lots are so tight

Colorful Thai offerings stand out against the dark paneled walls, blond-wood booths and two dozen tables. Bangkok City attracts a mixed crowd at night, when casually dressed families dine on pad thai next to the nightlife set. The restaurant offers standard dishes such as green curry and garlicky fried fish, as well as house specialties such as Volcano chicken, deep-fried and served with chili sauce and steamed vegetables.
High Marks
"The Pad Thai at Bangkok City achieves a great balance between sweet and savory." (lindsaylovely, Citysearch user)
"The menu is diverse and offers a lot of "favorites" and new tastes...the panang and curries are all wonderful, rich, and aromatic." (raeli1975, Citysearch user)
Low Marks
"...parking is a little tight here and limited along Yale." (dallasdood, Citysearch user)
"Here the flavors seemed heavy and lifeless." (edeats79, Citysearch user)
LOVE the noodle dishes!

Parking is tight, but the food and service is well worth it. Order the popular Thai noodle dish, Pad Thai (#46) or the Basil Noodles (#47) with a glass of Thai tea, of course. If you're not greeted or served by Joe. Ask for him. Him and his restaurant crew are definitely aimed to please!
Thank you!
