Good Steaks
by kirkchristian
Kirby's has always been good, the Southlake location follows suit. It will be interesting to see how it does compared to the Bob's Chop House location going in on Main Street in Grapevine. The Silver Fox isn't as crowded for good reason, but Bob's may give them a good deal more competition.
- Pros: Great Steak
- Cons: Sometimes crowded on weekends
Not all it's hyped up to be.

My husband and I love fine dining and were really looking forward to trying out Kirby's. I cannot explaing our disappointment. The service was snobbish and uncoordinated, the steak par (at best), the salad and soup could be described as a sad attempt, and the prices were considerably too high considering the items listed previously. Let me elaborate...Service: We didn't receive bread until we asked for it, which was after 3 different courses. The food runner brought out our steaks when we had not even started on the salad/soup. All attempts to remedy these mistakes were surrounded by an air of geniune indifference on the part of the server. Steak: The steak, in a taste test, would not beat a Texas Land and Cattle one. However, the price is 3x as high. Sides: The salad reminded me of the bagged stuff you can buy at the grocery store. The soup was simply broth. Price: Average steak, below average sides, and service that makes the customer feel like an inconvenience...you do the math and figure out if it seems worth it.
I Love My Kirby's
by margiehubbard
We've been going to Kirby's for over 15 years. It's my steak house of choice. There are more expensive. And there are probably better. But, I love my Kirby's. It's a comfortable place while maintaining a bit of elegance.
The food is always wonderful. I usually get the Tourandos Oscar, or at least with a bernaise sauce. I love the garlic house dressing. My husband's dad gets the pepper steak. The shrimp cocktail comes with HUGE shrimp. The cedar planked salmon is heavenly.
We took a friend once who said they could make a steak just as good themselves at home. I wonder... While that may be true, his steak wouldn't be served to him at Kirby's. And that means a lot to me. My husband used to go there when he was a teenager, back when it was in the old building. Kirby's is a Dallas tradition.
- Pros: It's very, very Dallas.
- Cons: My husband hates to valet. But, it's the best thing to do on Greenville.

Kirby's executes classic steakhouse food and service in a casually elegant settting. The pepper steak is the best around and the menu variety assures something for all. These guys do great seafood also.
- Pros: great ambiance, valet parking, great service
Look for Steak Elsewhere
by texassusie199
Ever wonder why the most recent posted review is dated in 2002? Because more recent ones are deleted? Wonder why? Although Kirby's has a wonderful ambience, it doesn't make up for the tasteless steaks. At least mine was tender! The entire menu is overpriced and everthing is ordered a la carte. The service is okay but certainly nothing to write home about. Look for steak elsewhere if you are hungry.
- Pros: great ambience
- Cons: a la carte menu, pricey, tasteless steaks
Disappointing
by texassusie
I had heard wonderful things about Kirby's but it did not live up to my expectations. The steak was almost flavorless. I thought the service was slow. It's really too bad because the ambience is really good - what you can see of it through the dim lighting. The prices are too high and you can top it off with a tip for the valet parking. I do not be plan a return visit.
- Pros: Impressive interior
- Cons: Valet parking, dimly lit
The first of several area locations, this Lower Greenville steakhouse is a relaxing treat.

The Scene
A large Western mural overlooks a wide-open dining area. Single-candle centerpieces sit atop oversized circular tables covered with crisp white linens. The rich mahogany booths are a little snug, and the shaded candlelit sconces are a tad too dim, making it difficult to see the food in front of you. A black-tie waitstaff nimbly navigates the room, serving customers from all over the city.
The Food
The broccoli-cheese bites are inexpensive, off-the-menu and one of the best starters around. Segue into a nice house salad before hitting the red meat. A crowd favorite, the Randy Tar prime rib is a succulent slab of beef that falls apart in a savory au jus. A seven-ounce Blue Ribbon filet mignon is a perfectly textured cut bursting with juicy flavor. For an alternative to steak, there's the tender veal chop; smothered in a veal stock and brandy-based sauce.

I have been visiting Kirby for some time. The food, service & ambience is always great to count on. I would highly suggest you visit.
