Best Beer Selection / Great Burgers
by idontwantamembername
This is the only place I think about when I'm in Dallas. They have the best beer selection that I've seen of any bar or restaurant in the city (mmmm...Chimay White on tap), and the food is hard to beat. Their "Better Cheeseburger" comes with a choice of several "gourmet" cheeses, including sage derby, stilton, chevrion, bruder basil, and whiskey cheddar (my favorite). Other tasty delights include the Guinness beef stew, crispy, belgian-style frites served with terragon mayo, and 5-6 different styles of oysters. I hear the bread pudding will make you cream your shorts, but I've never had it myself.
The atmosphere inside is very inviting, with dark woods and plenty of old beer relics to gaze at after you've had that 4th Maredsous 10 (one of the many delicious bottled beers they serve). The 2 patios are very popular and fill up fast when the weather is nice. Overall, the service has always been great for me, but I always end up with the same waitress so it's hard to speak about the wait staff as a whole.
The only downside is that parking can be difficult and the place fills up quickly...but there always seems to be a table open near the dartboard (if you're feeling risky). Listen to me closely...close your browser , turn off the computer, and go to the Old Monk now! A few beers and a burger later, you'll be glad you did.
- Pros: Great Beer Selection, Tasty Burgers, Inviting Atmosphere
- Cons: Parking, lots of trendy people
Good Drinks, Good People. This place is gold!

Great drink selection, great crowd, great service. I have not tried the food, but all my peers say's it's great. What other place has hot port wine with cloves? Perfect for the chilly nights! This is one of the only bars that knows how to pour a Guiness correctly. You like beer, scotch, wine, mixed drinks? It's all here without breaking the bank.
- Pros: Variety!!!
- Cons: Parking can be difficult
Great place for Happy Hour
by taysfa
If you are looking for a chill place to drink a beer and catch up with friends this is the place you are looking for. They have so many beers to chose from and the fish and chips and french fries are sooo good (that is if you are not trying to diet). Beware of the parking though. It feels up fast and they do not have valet. Also, it can get crowded and hard to find a seat.
- Pros: Good fish and chips and beer selection
- Cons: crowd and parking
Open a tab at this place at your own risk.

I tried to close out my tab only to find out that my credit card had been given to somebody else, but the bartender said not to worry because this happens all the time. Not very reassuring...
- Pros: good food and good beer and scotch selection
- Cons: parking, and loss of customer credit cards
Relaxing, professional and a lot of fun.

This is truly a great bar. Laid-back and relaxing. Go after a day or week of work. Catch up with old friends. It can get crowded, but not too bad. Bar service is great, and if you're lucky to get a table, service is really fast.
- Pros: Location, Ambience
- Cons: Size
Great neighborhood Pub
by ijones
This is a great Pub! Just like the neighborhood bars in Chicago, its small and full of locals. The food is very good as are the prices, and they have a large selection of Beers. My fav is the Fish and Chips and the Bread Pudding is the best.
Just like the Pubs in London

This place has the BEST selection of beers!! Their Smoked Salmon sandwhich on marble rye is delectable!!! My mouth is watering, just thinking about it!! Very relaxed atmosphere. I just wish it wasn't so smokey!!
- Pros: If you can think of a beer....they have it!!
- Cons: Very smokey at night
It seems to get worse and worse
by rosieaddison
When I first moved here from California I really like this bar cuz it was not stuffy and seemed to serve pretty good food but the more often I go there it seems like the service and food are getting worse and worse. Plus, I do think the drinks are a little over priced. I guess I will have to keep looking for relaxing place.
Impressive beer selection, excellent bar food and uber-cozy ambience--this could be the perfect pub.

The Scene
Heaps of young professionals and nostalgic Brits haunt this appealing Henderson Avenue tavern, a candlelit, intimate place with loads of Old-World charm. Inside, it's all cozy nooks and crannies, with worn wooden tables, exposed-brick walls covered with beer posters and tin signs, and a handsome back bar straight from a British chemist's shop. Service is generally fast and friendly, even on the two patio spaces (one enclosed), which fill up quickly on warm nights.
The Draw
Offering 15 beers on tap (from Harp and Bass to Belgian faves Chimay White and De Koninck), as well as more than 50 by the bottle, the Monk's mostly European list is one of the best in town. Regulars swear by the food, too; favorites on the casual pub-grub menu include Belgian-style steamed mussels, hearty Guinness beef stew, Bass Ale batter-fried fish-and-chips, and generous cheese boards weighed down with garnishes.
