God Bless This Church

Bethany is a Caucasian, senior adult congregation located in one of the highest crime districts in Dallas, know as Pleasant Grove. Sadly, church member refer to the sound of sirens as, The Pleasant Grove National Anthem. What was once a majority Caucasian community has now become a majority multi-ethic community. The former pastor (Bethany has been pastorless for the last 15 months) had a vision to make Bethany a multi-ethic church. Unfortunately, the majority Caucasian membership only gave lip service to the idea. The small minority of multi-ethic members in the church are largely seen as people that need to be ministered to, rather than people who can actively minister in the church. What few multi-ethic members who do have positions in the church, were place there by the former pastor. The churchs main revenue depends on social security checks and a charter school which leases a preschool building. As a result, much of the church is in disrepair. After the pervious pastor resigned and the last minister of music was fired by a small group of people, what was once a vivant, energetic, and up lifting times of worship has now reverted back to old time southern gospel music with a few outdated choruses thrown in. Fortunately, the interim pastor still preaches messages which bring relevance to the services. If youre looking for a good old country church, you will love Bethany. If youre looking for modern facilities, modern 21st Century worship services, or a variety of programs for the family, you may need to look elsewhere. As the former pastor of Bethany was quoted in an article by the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention: I even believed that I might be the last white senior pastor to serve at Bethany, Bethany needs to see that the time has come to hire a multi-ethic pastor who can meet the needs of their Predominantly multi-ethic community in which the church resides.

THE church to attend in Pleasant Grove!

Bethany is a very warm & friendly church. As a single mom, I've been accepted with open arms. There's even a Sunday School class just for singles. If you are in need of lots of love and a hug or two, Bethany is definitely the place to be!

Great Worship Experience

While once one of Southeast Dallas' largest churches Bethany has settled in and changed with the times to become a truely diversified group of people that love to worship Jesus Christ.

If you are looking for a church home that will give you a true down home feeling and that believes in reaching out to people for Christ then Bethany is your place. I would highly suggest that you pay them a visit and find out for yourself.

Friendliest Church in Pleasant Grove

If you are looking for a church home I would highly suggest / recommend that you try Bethany Baptist Church because I have found that this is a very unique group of people who really love Jesus and work very hard at getting his word out to the community. The congregation is by far the most friendliest group of people that I have ever met. It is one of the rare occasions where it does not matter what ethnic group you belong to. They will go out of their way to make you feel right at home. With the recent addition of their new pastor they are moving forward with their goal of reaching up, reaching out, and reaching in to the people of their community and surrounding areas. You will not be disappointed !!!

Wonderful Place to Worship

Bethany Baptist Church is a multi-racial church located in Pleasant Grove. Pleasant Grove is now a multi-racial neighborhood in which the church membership is starting to reflect. This is the way it should be, reaching out to the community in which it is located. Bethany has just hired a new younger pastor with fresh ideas and full of energy in which to reach the community.

In the past two Sundays Bethany has had four new members and one Baptism. Bethany welcomes with open arms each and everyone that walks through the door.

Bethany in the last year or possibly a little longer had added to the media outreach programs streaming the service over the internet and shortly will be starting a podcast for your Ipod.

Due to the way the negative comments were written...the subject matter...and wording of that subject matter...that it was written by that same disgruntled employee who left the church. There was no firing ....he resigned...

Great place to worship

I have visited this church myself and will have to agree with the reviews from both w2mga and j8209 in that this is the most friendly group of people you will ever meet at a place of worship.

Jesus Christ is definitely felt here. I would have no problem recomending this church to anyone in the Southeast Dallas area.

What is religion about?

Long-time active members of this church became housebound several years ago, unable to attend services due to health issues. Recently, they have become acutely ill. Has the pastor been by to see them? Has the church arranged one meal? Has the church arranged prayer meetings for them at home? The answer to the all above questions is NO. Maybe not a good choice.
