They've lost their focus

by youngcoh

I've been here a number of times over several years, and with each succeeding visit my experience has diminished. First the margaritas: there's barely a hint of tequila in the house rita, and the so-called large for seven bucks is only about 14oz. Upon questioning, the waiter of course tries to sell the Gold variety for several dollars more. How about just putting some tequila in the drink to begin with?

Chile Relleno? Ws breaded with crumbs and prepared ahead of time rather than coated in the traditional egg batter and fried upon order. And they used an Anaheim instead of a Poblano. All in all a poor attempt at a relleno. I do better at home.

Maybe this passes muster with some locals, but Ojeda's either needs to get their stuff together and return to what built their (now over-rated) reputation or be prepared to fold their tent.

There is better......

by san_fran_brandon

I do not understand the great reviews. We went here based on the positive feedback on this site, but I am convinced that each was posted by an employee or friend. Food is very (very) bland and was not prepared fresh. It took two minutes at most to get the food on the table after ordering, which means it was sitting in back under a warmer or something. I like local joints, and I like cheap, but I do not like or recommend Ojeda's simply based on taste.

Go for the cheese.

by j_parham

Hello, all. This is my first post, so it may be scattered. :) I actually live in Dallas, and have spent most of my life within a mile of this restaurant. I have to say, as a native, you can find better. The restaurant has it's strong suits. It's family owned, so the service is top notch. Friendly, professional, and quick. And this may sound absurd, but for me, it's the CHEESE. This place has fantastic cheese. If you are craving nachos, this is the place. On the negative, their combinations are kind of weird, as in, I can rarely find a combination that sounds good. There was a comment a few down that says that the salsa is heavy on vinegar. Just so you know, they have a secret. Ask for the mild salsa. They only give it upon request, and it tastes so much better, and doesn't have the "vinegar" and "my-mouth-is-gonna-catch-fire" feeling. Honestly, the food here is average. I can name three restaurants within a mile or two that are better.

  • Pros: They have excellent cheese.
  • Cons: The food is good mexican, but not superb.

Great Chili Rellenos

by daletodd

After several trips to Ojeda's Mexican Restaurant on Maple I have come to the conclusion that this may be the best Mexican Food west of the Mississippi. Every trip to Dallas confirms the five star rating that I have imposed on this wonderful menu. The puff Taco and Chili Rellenos are fabulous and the sangria/margarita swirl is out of this world. Drink two and take a designated driver with you.

  • Pros: Security in the parking lot and great service once inside.
  • Cons: If not careful you will order more food than you can eat.

Solid but unspectacular

by msbaker777

I just got back to my hotel (several large ones are very close which may be a plus if you are traveling) from dinner. I have to say I am quite a bit less impressed than some other reviewers. I had steak fajitas which are highly touted but were only above average. The steak was tender but a bit bland. Guacamole was very average. The chips were not the best and the salsa was appropriately hot but heavy on vinegar. The refried beans were great, good bacon flavor. Margaritas on the rocks were heavy on sweet mix. Probably the highlight was the service, very friendly, surprisingly professional, and prompt. Bottom line, I would go again if there was no wait and I was staying this close (Anatole Hilton).

  • Pros: Service
  • Cons: Food was solid but not up to the reputation

Awesome Cheese & Onion Enchiladas & Margaritas!

by omie

The chicken stuffed jalapeno appetizers are an incredible start to an amazing eating experience. They are never greasy, but fried crisp perfection. The cheese & onion enchiladas are superior with the hot melted cheese, flavorful pungent onions, and topped with a chili gravy sauce.1 I am not a fan of refried beans, but these are a must try! They have a hint of meat flavor and my palate speculates it to be bacon! Mmm Service is prompt and attentive. We order our appetizer and then upon completion of eating it we order our meal because the food comes so quickly. Ojeda's is by far the best mexican restaurant in Texas.

  • Pros: Service, Amazing Food, Great Prices

Great service & yummy food!

by amazonchix

We?re new to Dallas and were craving some Mexican food. After searching and reading various reviews we decided to dine at Ojeda?s on Maple Street. This restaurant is located on Maple with several other Hispanic eating establishments. We were greeted immediately and seated. Our wait staff acknowledged us quickly. The chips were served warm. What they say about the salsa being spicy is so true, which was a pleasure to us since we love spicy salsa. The salsa is left in a pour container on the table so you can have as much as you want. We ordered margaritas on the rocks after reading that they are known for being strong. Ojeda?s only allows you to have a maximum of 3 large margaritas due to the intensity of them?and only one if you are not eating. I?m a margarita snob and found their margaritas to be better than average. It wasn?t overly sweet and I could tell they were on the stronger side. We dined on enchiladas (spinach & chicken) and found them satisfying. The spinach was fresh and the meal WAS NOT greasy. Dinner was hot and ingredients appeared fresh. The service was fast, friendly & efficient?we never had an empty chip basket or drink.

  • Pros: Great Service, Good Atmosphere, Salsa on the Table
  • Cons:  Note: They no longer make any homemade tortillas.

Dallas institution!

by lizparham

This place is the best longest lasting mexican food restaurant in Dallas. It is a Dallas institution. Everything is great tex mex fare. I prefer the enchiladas. Watch out, the Margarita's are very strong. You can get a few menu items and share with a big group. The staff is freindly and the service is great.

This is also a great place for a party, you can rent out a large party room with food and staff etc.

  • Pros: A Dallas institution!, Great food Good atmosphere!
  • Cons: A little out of the way but worth it.

tasty food, but not much variety for vegetarians

by annapurnafoodie

The vegetarian menu items are sparse. They are basically limited to spinach or cheese enchiladas or cheese quesadillas.

  • Pros: spicy food
  • Cons: not vegetarian friendly
